Will Google’s New Pixel Smartphone be the iPhone Killer?

google pixel smartphoneWhile Apple is still enjoying much success surrounding the recent launch of the iPhone 7, Google hopes to avert attention from the juggernaut flagship model by introducing their new Pixel smartphone.

According to Google, Pixel has the highest rated smartphone camera ever, a battery that lasts all day, and unlimited storage for all of your photos and videos. In addition, Pixel is the first phone with the Google Assistant built in.

The smartphone boasts a 12.3-megapixel rear camera, alongside a 1.55-micron pixel size, which means the camera will perform noticeably well in low light settings. Also, the camera has virtually no shutter lag, as the HDR function is in turn always on, ultimately improving overly-bright daylight scenes and shadows that are significantly dark. And thanks to Snapdragon 821 CPU and 4GB of RAM, Pixel can process images twice as fast as previous models…

Google announces the Pixel smartphone and that’s bad news for Samsung

Experts say Google’s latest push into the smartphone market has thrown down the gauntlet to Android market leader Samsung. Foad Fadaghi, managing director of emerging technology analyst firm Telsyte, said today’s announcement from the search giant is significant.
“It outlined their ambition to be a strong player in not just smartphone software but also hardware,” Mr Fadaghi said. And while at first glance it might appear Google’s move is aimed at Apple, Mr Fadaghi said Google actually has Samsung “directly in its crosshairs”.

5 phones that promised to be iPhone killers

It’s fair to say that almost every smartphone manufacturer wants to bring out an iPhone killer, but so far none have succeeded. Samsung sells more phones than Apple overall, but even its biggest flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S7 don’t generate quite the same level of hype.

Attaining the iPhone’s cult-like status seems unreachable for most brands. Simply making a great handset won’t do the job – at any given time the latest iPhone is rarely the best phone available. Strong marketing surely helps, but to explain the phenomenon away with that alone seems reductive.

Whatever the reason, no other brand has quite managed to make an iPhone killer, but plenty have tried, and, as the following five handsets show, often failed quite spectacularly.
